Since 2018, CRYSC and UCHealth + CU Orthopedics and Sports Medicine have worked together in an effort to grow the safety and health resources that are available for Rapids Youth players and members. 

As our partnership strengthens with UCHealth, we want to work together to highlight the amazing players within the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club with a monthly ‘Player of the Month’. Check out the criteria below and nominate any players that deserve to be highlighted by UCHealth and CRYSC!

Criteria for the UCHealth Player of the Month:

 

  • Athletic Excellence – Standout performance made at any level of competition.
  • Academic Achievement – Review of GPA and academic honors distinctions.
  • Exemplary Character – Commitment to sportsmanship, character and community through membership and participation in positive activities.

Drawing from the combined strengths of the regions best academic and community hospitals, along with access to clinics throughout the Front Range, this partnership allows for more access to medical professionals / athletic trainers, better resources, and unique opportunities for the Sport Medicine department at CRYSC. This Month's UCHealth Player of the Month

Congrats to Kailyn Ertler on winning our February 2024 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Kailyn plays midfield for our Rapids 07G NPL team and is recognized by her teammates and coaches for being hard-working, intelligent, and kindhearted. Her talents grow every day as she develops as a leader on the field, in the classroom, and in her community. Kailyn has showcased her resilience and determination on the field after being diagnosed with POTS two years ago and a concussion prior to her school season, keeping her from playing for 7 months. Beyond her athletic prowess, Kailyn is actively involved in various school and extracurricular activities. In school, Kailyn takes all AP or Honors classes and maintains a 4.0 GPA.

Player of the Month January 2024 - Izzie Harrison

Congrats to Izzie Harrison on winning our January 2024 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Izzie plays as a striker for our Rapids 09G South ECNL-RL team and is recognized by her teammates and coaches for her role as a leader and a well-rounded individual. She excels not only on the field but also in philanthropy and academics. This past season, Izzie showcased her talent as one of the standout players on her team and played a critical role in their undefeated record. She contributed significantly to their offensive output with 9 goals and 6 assists in 15 games. Her outstanding performance earned her a coveted spot in the ECNL training squad. Beyond her athletic achievements, Izzie is actively involved in various school and extracurricular activities.

Player of the Month December 2023 - Hadley Whitworth

Congrats to Hadley Whitworth on winning our December 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Hadley plays as an winger/striker for our Rapids 12G Fort Collins Select team, where her teammates and coaches know her as having a tenacious spirit and desire for success. She sets her goals and then works hard to achieve them. This fall, Hadley made quite the impression on the field, scoring 9 goals and 6 assists, finishing her season as the top goalscorer and as the assist leader on her team. She is also a 2-sport athlete, competing at a high level in basketball. Off the field, Hadley is exceptionally creative and academically gifted, especially in math. At her homeschool group, she is quick to lend a helping hand to younger children as well as undertake household responsibilities with enthusiasm.

Player of the Month November 2023 - Isabella Manning

Congrats to Isabella Manning on winning our November 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Isabella plays as a goalkeeper for our Rapids 09G Castle Rock Burgundy team, where her teammates and coaches know her to be a relentless advocate for self-improvement and commitment on the pitch. She dedicates much of her life to soccer and strengthens her game at regular practice and goalie practice (often on the same night!). This summer, she attended multiple goalie camps, as well as her school’s morning and afternoon practice sessions to effectively prepare for the upcoming season. Isabella shows a true love for soccer, and she is determined to reach a higher level of play. Off the field, Isabella is a member of her church’s youth group, volunteers for children’s ministries, and participates in school theater. She is also a member of the National Junior Honors Society.

Player of the Month October 2023 - Summer Snider

Congrats to Summer Snider on winning our October 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Summer plays as an outside midfielder for our Rapids 05G Fort Collins White team, where her teammates and coaches know her as a leader who has a never-quit attitude. On the field, Summer has a high soccer IQ, sharing her knowledge with her teammates while actively encouraging them to push their limits and seek improvement. During the 2023 Rapids Classic Tournament, Summer sustained a shoulder injury that kept her sidelined in the 3rd of 4 games in their bracket. Despite this, Summer rallied her team back in the last game of the tournament, ultimately winning their division. Off the field, Summer assists with managing her family’s local coffee shop and is a host-volunteer for student-led community after-hours.

Player of the Month September 2023 - Mollie Skibinski

Congrats to Mollie Skibinski on winning our September 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Mollie plays left wing/left fullback for our Rapids 08G Central Select team, where her teammates and coaches know her as an ultra-determined team player. On the field, Mollie gives everything she has and, from the perspective of anyone watching, plays every minute like it’s her last. Off the field, Mollie is taking sports medicine classes and wants to be a Sports Psychologist and Athletic Trainer so she can support athletes in both their physical and mental journeys. In addition to soccer, Mollie works with peers in YouthRoots to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged youth athletes athletes. Mollie maintained a 4.4 GPA at her high school, graduating two years early. She was also an Honor Roll member as well as a HOSA State Qualifier.

Player of the Month August 2023 - Clayton Thomas

Congrats to Clayton Thomas on winning our August 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Clayton plays left midfield / forward for our Rapids 06B ECNL team, where his teammates and coaches know him as a hard worker and role model for aspiring young leaders. Clayton was a good friend of Luis Garcia, an East High School student who was tragically killed in early 2023 due to gun violence. Clayton and a number of his teammates have called for action to end gun violence by using their voices online, creating t-shirts, and wearing those shirts while warming up for a game this spring. Clayton also spoke at the State Capitol to parents, students, and the Denver community, highlighting plans to end gun violence in the community. Off the field, Clayton is an exceptional student at East High School, maintaining a 4.8 GPA and making the Principal’s Honor Roll, all while maintaining a busy training schedule.

Player of the Month July 2023 - Sophia Harkless

Congrats to Sophia Harkless on winning our July 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Sophia plays goalkeeper for our Rapids 13G Fort Collins Select II and Select I teams, where her positive attitude and extremely kind nature are seen every day. Her teammates and coaches say she’s quick to give a compliment and words of encouragement to those who need it. As a player, Sophia won Player of the Week for both of her teams in March 2023. Off the field, Sophia is a proud youth member of the Alpaca Owner’s Association, showing her alpacas at various events, and winning multiple blue and red ribbons along with Grand Champion awards in her age group.

Player of the Month June 2023 - Willa Maxwell

Congrats to Willa Maxwell on winning our June 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Willa is an outside back for our Rapids P2/Burgundy 1 North team, where her teammates and coaches know her to be resilient and determined to improve. In addition to team practices, Willa spends much of her time training outside of scheduled practices. Willa regularly attends Coerver camps and has been invited to multiple invitational training sessions, winning accolades like “Most Moves” and “Most Diverse Player”. Alongside soccer, Willa has shown herself to be a talented equestrian, winning ribbons in the equitation and hunter classes at hunter/jumper shows. In the classroom, Willa is a top student, being named “Student of the Month” in her first month of middle school and earning an invitation to the Gifted and Talented program.

Player of the Month May 2023 - Quinn Erickson

Congrats to Quinn Erickson on winning our May 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Quinn is a left-back and center midfielder for our Rapids 10B North Burgundy team, where his teammates and coaches know him to be a humble leader with a drive to make others around him better. In the past three years, Quinn has had three different coaches and maintained his vital role in the team, often being selected as captain. In addition, Quinn is a double-sport athlete, playing at the highest level of competitive basketball for his age group. At school, Quinn was recently inducted into the National Junior Honors Society for exceptional leadership. He also won the Pride Award in his class and maintains a 3.875 GPA.

Congrats to Emma Shiffer on winning our April 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Emma is a goalkeeper for our Rapids 11G South Select team, where her teammates and coaches know her to be a team player with a fantastic work ethic. Over the past year, Emma has moved up from the 11G Burgundy team to the Select team, where she has been excelling in goal. In addition, Emma has recently been selected to attend the United Futsal National Training Camp in Oklahoma City this upcoming June.

At school, Emma participates in Battle of the Books, gymnastics, and the school choir. She also maintains a 4.0 GPA.

Player of the Month March 2023 - Elly Bowers

Congrats to Elly Bowers on winning our March 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Elly is a goalkeeper for our Rapids 09G South Select I team, where her teammates and coaches know her to be fearless and determined in front of the goal. In February, at the FC Spring Cup in New Mexico, Elly had three shutouts in four games, leading her team to a tournament victory. In addition, Elly is a member of our CRYSC Elite Futsal program. She was selected as team captain at the Las Vegas Showcase and has recently been selected to attend the Oklahoma City National Training Camp in June. In the classroom, Elly is in the gifted and talented program, National Junior Honors Society, and is taking double advanced classes in some subjects.

Player of the Month February 2023 - Shawn Woodall

Congrats to Shawn Woodall on winning our February 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Shawn plays outside back for our Rapids 06B South Select team, where his teammates and coaches know him as a defender that demonstrates quality, consistency, and leadership. In January 2023, Shawn participated in a #CRYSCInternational trip to Germany. On the trip and on the field, Shawn was regularly one of the best-performing players and a leader in the dressing room. Off the field, Shawn took exceptional ownership of his team’s representation of CRYSC abroad. Throughout the trip to Germany, he was a behavioral example to the group and balanced the joys of travel with the focus and discipline required to compete at a high level.

Congrats to Jackson Tankersley on winning our January 2023 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Jackson plays midfielder for our Rapids 11B Central Select I team. Teammates and coaches know him as one of the hardest-working players in the region, an open-minded learner, and an athlete with a strong desire to improve his game. Through coaching evaluations and reflections, Jackson has stood out as an athlete who continually grows in his passion for the game and his abilities on the field. Most recently, Jackson has worked his way into the EDS pool, training five times weekly and playing most weekends against top-level competition.

Congrats to Paige Fry on winning our December 2022 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Paige plays for our Rapids 06G Fort Collins Select team as a goalkeeper. In the Fort Collins region, she is known for her leadership abilities, positivity on and off the field, and respect for all. Her leadership qualities are exemplified through her athletic achievements, academic success, and community involvement. Paige is a long-standing member of our CRYSC community, with this year being her seventh at the Club! She is also a two-year letter winner at Fort Collins High School for basketball and soccer, a 2021 second-team selection for soccer, an honorable mention selection for basketball, and the winner of the 2021 Colorado State Cup.

Player of the Month November 2022 - Scarlett French

Congrats to Scarlett French on winning our November 2022 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Scarlett plays for our Rapids 09G Central Select I team as a center back. She is known by her teammates as a hard worker with a strong drive to improve herself and the players around her. On and off the field, Scarlett leads with action and positivity. She is also a compassionate advocate for diversity in sports. This year, Scarlett and her teammates topped their division and won first place at the Real Cup. In her free time, she is a referee for girls and boys 12U 7v7 games and enjoys “the opportunity to be a role model for players wanting to be a part of multiple facets of the game regardless of their gender, age, and status.”

Player of the Month October 2022 - Giovanni Natale

Congrats to Giovanni Natale on winning our October 2022 UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Giovanni plays for our Rapids 07B ECNL team and at Luthern High School as a goalkeeper. He’s known by his teammates as an exceptional goalkeeper that has maintained a 7-1 record and a 0.75 Goals Against Average in ECNL league play. He helped his team qualify for the ECNL National Championship in San Diego and went undefeated in tournament matches. At Luthern High School, Giovanni was awarded Athlete of the Year. Along with his success at CRYSC, Giovanni will represent the Rapids with Argentina and has been chosen to attend the Olympic Development Showcase in Utah.

Alex plays for our Rapids South 08B Select I and Champions League, Premier I teams as a center-midfielder. He’s known by his teammates as an exemplary Rapids player who always showcases a positive attitude on the pitch. Alex consistently works to improve all areas of his game and is often selected by coaches to lead the team in practices and on matchday. Overall, Alex has shown dedication to improving on and off the field, the ability to build trust with teammates, and the desire to grow in his role by always asking for feedback from his coaches.

Malachi plays for our Rapids 8U Advanced team as a winger. He is an exceptional student-athlete recognized for his outstanding leadership and for making younger players feel welcome through his on-the-field intuition, creativity, maturity, and understanding of his environment. Off the field, Malachi receives excellent grades and is consistently recognized by his educators for his attentiveness, willingness to learn, and academic excellence.

Player of the Month July 2022 - Reece Bosgraaf

Congrats to Reece Bosgraaf on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for July 2022!

Reece plays for our Rapids 07B Central Select, E64, and for Summit High School in Breckenridge, CO as a center back. Reece is the embodiment of dedication to the sport, commuting over four hours a day for practice and games. In just two years, Reece moved from the platinum level in the Centennial League to the top of the P1 Champions League and was invited to join the new E64 National Team. In early 2022, Reece suffered a broken ankle but worked hard to recover and get back on the field for the final two games of the season. Along with his accomplishments on the field, Reece also maintains a 3.92 out of 4.00 GPA and is a member of the Thespian Honors Society.

Courtney plays for our Rapids 04B Central Select team as a midfielder and captains the Grandview High School boy’s soccer team! This year has been a special one for Courtney as he and his high school teammates helped lead the Grandview Wolves to their first-ever State Championship. he has been described by CRYSC coaches as, “A player that lives by his values. Respectful, loyal, hard-working, and humble. Courtney is one of the best leaders at the Club and is recognized as such by his teammates and opponents.”

This year, he was selected to play with the Rapids 03/04 EDS team as one of only 3 juniors on a team populated by senior players. With a passion for the game and dedication to improving every day, Andrew has found success at every level of play and earned a reputation as a “world-class teammate, who consistently offers support and encouragement”.

Kenna plays for our Rapids 09G Castle Rock Burgundy team as captain and a leader from the midfield! Her passion for soccer and drive to improve can be seen at practice, games, soccer camps, and any additional training sessions available. If there is an opportunity to grow, Kenna is the first in line to participate! Her desire to improve also applies to her schoolwork, where she is an honor roll student with a hard work ethic. “Kenna puts 100% into everything that she does” and is a deserving winner of our April UCHealth Player of the Month award!

Player of the Month March 2022 - Troy Moss

Congrats to Troy Moss on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for March 2022!

Troy plays for our Rapids 11B South Select I team as a versatile midfielder/defender and our Rapids 11B United Futsal team as the starting goalkeeper. Last futsal season, he was an integral member of multiple Rapids gold medal-winning sides in Las Vegas and Orlando, and his outstanding performances saw him selected to the CRYSC Futures Academy program. Troy has been described as “the consummate team player, always leading by example” on the field and “a straight-A student well-liked by his teachers and classmates” in school.

Player of the Month February 2022 - Jocelyn Oceguera

Congratulations to Jocelyn Oceguera on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for February 2022!

Jocelyn plays for our Rapids 04G Castle Rock recreational team and volunteers her time coaching 9U athletes! Since starting high school, she has captained her freshman soccer team and received multiple awards for academic excellence, showcasing her talent both on and off the field. Rapids Castle Rock coach Katie Beaudoin describes Jocelyn as, “…an amazing person. Not many Junior’s in high school would volunteer to coach a team for an entire season. This takes up quite a bit of time, as they have two practices a week and games on Saturdays. She is a great role model for these young girls!” Check out her full interview on the CRYSC blog page!

Congrats to Brooke Roth on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for January 2022!

Brooke plays for the Rapids South 05G Select team as a defensive midfielder (#6) and is a fantastic representative of what it means to be “the heart behind the crest”. Her coach, Kristina Corona Grimsley, describes her as “[…] a great kid all-around. She puts in the work in training and game environments. Brooke is an awesome example of what we look to create within our Rapids Youth Soccer environment. She leads through action and word while getting along with all of her teammates. Congratulations to Kaylynn Miller on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for December 2021!

Kaylynn plays for the Rapids 08G Central Select 2 team as a goalkeeper and has had an outstanding 2021, culminating in being named MVP for her age group at President’s Cup! She has been described as “super responsible, hardworking, and caring” with a true passion for the game and drive to become the best player that she can. She has also been excelling in academics this year, with a 4.0 going into the holiday break and a place on her school’s Honor Roll. Kaylynn has been a vital member of multiple CRYSC teams since 2020, and wherever she is, she makes an impact on and off of the field.

Player of the Month November 2021 - Claire Silverman

Congratulations to Claire Silverman on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for November 2021!

Claire plays for the Rapids 05G ECNL team and Fairview High School as a striker with a keen eye for goal. She was the top scorer this year in the Front Range League and recently made the Western Conference ODP team. Claire has also been making an impact off of the field through community service, helping seniors learn new technology, making blankets and biscuits for the humane society, and tutoring young students in math. She has been described as “an excellent teammate, a great student (4.84 GPA!), and an individual that contributes within her community.”

Congratulations to Teagan Lierman on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for October 2021!

Teagan plays on the Rapids 03/04G Select 1 team as a striker and is having a prolific season in front of goal! This year, she helped her team to a President’s Cup final victory, taking home the game’s MVP award for an incredible 4-goal display. When Teagan isn’t leading the line for her team, she enjoys playing softball and volunteering with the Northern Lights Little League in Thornton. Teagan is our latest UCHealth Player of the Month because of her accomplishments on the field, in her community, and as an example that younger CRYSC players can look up to!

Player of the Month September 2021 - Bailey Setright

Congratulations to Bailey Setright on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for September 2021!

Bailey plays on the Rapids 14U Fort Collins Select team as a defender, traveling across state lines from her hometown of Laramie, Wyoming three to four times a week for practice, training, and games. She has played with the Wyoming ODP team for two years, made the West Regional ODP pool in 2019-20, and featured in the defense of a fantastic Fort Collins team that only let in one goal all of last season. Bailey embodies hard work and a love for the game, making her our latest UCHealth Player of the Month winner!

Wes plays on the Rapids 19U ECNL boys team as a goalkeeper and has committed to playing college soccer at Colorado School of Mines this fall. Wes is known as an incredibly talented athlete, playing with the Colorado Rapids MLS Next and Olympic Development Program Region IV teams, and a hard working student, lettering five times academically and graduating with Honors through the SOAR Honors Program. With strong performances on the field and in the classroom, Wes has earned his place as our newest UCHealth Player of the Month winner!

Congratulations to Maddy Quantz on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for June 2021!

Maddy plays with the Rapids 07G Burgundy Castle Rock team as a midfielder and works with CRYSC players under the age of 6 as a volunteer Soccer Start coach. She truly loves the game and has been described by CRYSC coaching staff as “an outstanding young lady that represents Rapids Youth Soccer and its values, inside and outside the Club.” Maddy embodies the Club’s “Heart Behind the Crest” purpose and is always looking to help out her teammates and classmates however she can. Win or lose, Maddy will be there as a reliable teammate, friend, and leader.

Cate plays with the Rapids 09G Burgundy team as a defender and is known by her coaches and teammates as a “quiet workhorse” whose actions make her a true leader both on and off the pitch. Whether she’s putting in a tackle to stop a goal scoring opportunity, fundraising for the Mile High Labrador Retriever Mission, or representing her school at the city-wide science fair, Cate makes an impact wherever she goes.

Congratulations to Amman Muzaffar on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for April 2021!

Amman plays with the Rapids 05 ECNL boys as a central midfielder and captain of the team. He’s been with the Club since his earliest playing days at Colorado Storm and has developed into a leader both on and off the field. “While extremely humble, he is very passionate about the game and will sacrifice himself for the better of the team. He cares about all of his teammates and is a great person to be around on and off the pitch.”

Congratulations to TJ Gibson on winning the UCHealth Player of the Month award for March 2021!

TJ plays in the Rapids Central region with the Rapids 03 Select boys as a midfielder and captain of the team. College Placement Program Director Anthony Presnell describes TJ as “a true representative what it means to be a CRYSC student-athlete. Along with his commitment to his personal development TJ has been playing with Rapids Youth Soccer for nearly 14 years!” He has recently been accepted into Washington University- St Louis and will play with university’s men’s soccer program in fall 2021.

Sara plays in the Rapids Fort Collins region with the Rapids 08 Select girls as the team’s goalkeeper. She has gained a reputation as a player that leads by example, with a strong dedication to self-improvement and helping others grow in the goalkeeper position. Sara loves the game and is always out training on the fields with her teammates, running drills in her back yard, or working with younger players as a mentor.
