Monday Education Sessions (Available NOW)

Building Competition in Training with Levi Boggess (9U-14U)

The objective of the session will be to demonstrate techniques to build healthy competition in practice. This will promote a desire in players to problem solve to find ways to win the activity. Competition in training builds a strong work ethic which is evident in games and reduces the amount of disciplinary issues in training because players are invested in the activity.

Tips and Tricks for Managing Young People with Brian Sheehan (6U-10U)

Managing a group of young people can be tough, but don’t worry, you’re not alone! This session will model a variety of tried & true group management techniques. Be it getting children’s attention to developmentally appropriate ways of speaking to children, we’ve got some tools for your toolbox that will make practices run more seamlessly with less stress.

Introduction to Goalkeeping: Building a Relationship with the Ball with Jeff Oleck and Brandyn Bumpas (6U-9U)

This session will focus on age-appropriate exercises that introduce players to the building blocks of the goalkeeping position: catching, passing, and moving. Specific attention will be given to activities that a whole team can do, allowing every player to gain interest in the position while developing a holistic athletic skillset.

Foundations of Goalkeeping for the Pre-Competitive Player with Jeff Oleck and Brandyn Bumpas (9U-14U)

This goalkeeping-related session will move just beyond introductory topics while addressing the techniques and principles that are expected of our pre-competitive goalkeepers looking to make the transition to the competitive (11U+) program. The focus will be on skills that are commonly applied at that age and stage, specifically distribution with hands and feet, basic shot stopping and angle play, and the importance of communication.

Tuesday Education Sessions (Available NOW)

Using Guiding Questions to Drive Training with Levi Boggess (9U-14U)

The objective of this session is to demonstrate how guided questions can bring out desired behaviors in your players and team. Guided questions allow the players to think about the challenges of a game and come up with a solution that makes sense to them. This method of coaching creates long lasting player behaviors because they are creating the solution rather than being told how to solve the problem.

2v1 to Attract a Defender with Brian Sheehan (6U-10U)

Every soccer player is a decision maker on the field! In this session, you will learn as a coach how to give players a very simple, yet effective “If/Then” decision making framework that is applicable to any player in any position on the pitch.

Introduction to Possession and Positional Play at All Ages with Caiman Stevens (6U-10U)

At the CRYSC, we believe that our teams will have more success when they are in possession of the ball. We want our players to enjoy the ball, be creative and value playing with the ball at their feet. Soccer is multi-directional and when players and coaches understand this concept and know how and why they need to support each other it can become a very effective tool. Yes the goals are at opposite ends of the field and the game is built around defending one and attacking the other but we encourage our players to use the entire field when playing.

Learn how to use positioning, possession and ball movement to create numbers up allowing your team to exploit space and gain an advantage when attacking.

Coaching the Game with Donald Gillies (9U-14U)

This session will focus on various useful coaching methods used during a game such as ‘command style’, ‘guided discovery’, ‘modeling’ and ‘directed discovery’. Samples and key elements of these approaches will be shown at important moment s during the game including: Warm up, pregame information delivered to players, half time talk, and post game information.

Wednesday Education Sessions (Available NOW)

Play Practice Play Example Session with Levi Boggess (9U-14U)

Session will be solely based around OUR teaching method and why. Session will be focused on the three components of the session and how to properly connect the activities.

Whole: Conditioned game activity: larger group, more complex, more opponent pressure, high game context.

Part: Broken down/simplified/often smaller group activity, lower game context. (Can be with or without pressure.)

Whole: Conditioned game activity: larger group, more complex, more opponent pressure, high game context.

Receiving to Play Forward from a Goal Kick with Nick Blanco (9U-11U)

A big part of the 9U/10U (7v7) age groups is to teach players where to be, who needs to be in certain spots at certain moments in a game, why we want them to be there, and how to set players up to be successful all within our style of play. Because there is a build out line at the 7v7 age group our teams are expected to be able to play out of the back and how to problem solve that particular moment of the game.

When players graduate into the 9v9 age group the build out line is no longer there so our players must understand how to play out of the back from a goal kick which is why we want our 9U/10U players to be able to have/understand technical and tactical skills that are needed to find success when we are playing out of the back from a goal kick.

This session will help players better understand the who, what, where, when and why of playing forward from a goal kick.

Small Sided Games with Caiman Stevens (9U-14U)

Session will focus on various small sided game ideas to use in a training session. Small sided games include (but are not limited to): 1v1 play, 2v2 play, overload games (2v1 & 3v2), 3v3 to 4 goals and 4v4 games (max).

Thursday Education Sessions (Available NOW)

Introduction to Possession and Positional Play at All Ages with Daniel Woolliscroft (6U-10U)

Creating Chances from Wide Areas with Chris Gartside (6U-10U)

Players in the wide areas often find themselves in plenty of space during the flow of the game. This is especially true in 7v7 and 9v9, where we want our players to be confident on the ball in 1v1 situations, as well as have the skillset to be able to create a chance for another teammate.

This session will look at the different ways we can create goal scoring chances from wide areas, either by switching the ball quickly to isolate a defender or by providing an overlap/underlap opportunity to create 2v1 situations. Giving our players the technical proficiency and decision making ability to exploit these attacking situations will lead to creative, more confident players in the long run.

Coaching Defending Essentials with Levi Boggess (6U-14U)

The objective of the session is to teach coaches the basic fundamentals of 1v1 defending and utilizing pressure/cover. We will demonstrate footwork, body shape and communication as they relate to defending. We will also cover different types of tackles and defending with one another teammate.

Finishing with Collin Miller (9U-14U)

Particularly with the 11U + program, coaches ultimately need to keep sessions FUN first and foremost. What better way to keep sessions fun and lively than finishing. This session will focus soley around constructive finishing practices.
