Congratulations to Rapids 06B Central Select alumnus and Colorado referee Alex Gerson on being named CSA Male Young Referee of the Year in 2023!
Alex Gerson is a true soccer enthusiast, with a passion for every part of the game. He’s shown his talent on the field with Rapids Youth Soccer and has recently been recognized as one of the finest referees in the state of Colorado! Alex began his soccer journey with the Rapids as a five-year-old, where he honed his skills as a goalkeeper. At 12, he took a pivotal step in his soccer journey and refereed the first game of his career.
Fast forward to today, and Alex has become an accomplished referee with an impressive track record. Having officiated over 275+ games, he has a vast amount of experience for his age. His commitment to fair play and his deep understanding of the game have earned him respect among players, coaches, and fans alike.
As a soccer fan, Alex found his opportunity to be on the pitch as often as possible by refereeing ECNL, MLS Next, and other events across Colorado. His refereeing work has enabled Alex to represent CSA at President’s Cup Regionals in Utah and even the chance to referee in Portugal this past summer at the Iber Cup.
“From youth goalkeeper to MLS Next referee, Alex’s journey is one of continuous learning and development. He embodies the values we cherish at Rapids: sportsmanship, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. His ability to navigate between the worlds of player and official demonstrates not only his understanding of the game but also his maturity and leadership qualities. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Alex, and we know he’ll continue to make us proud both on and off the field.” – Aaron Nagel, CRYSC Executive Director
Alex’s love for refereeing is a testament to his unwavering passion and dedication to soccer. Whether defending the goal or making crucial calls on the field, he continues to make an impact on every game he is involved in. With each match officiated or played, Alex’s love for soccer only grows stronger. He is currently a senior at Northfield High School and lettered all four years as the varsity punter and placekicker on the football team, further highlighting his talent across multiple sports.
