Chronic Back Pain

Back pain can be caused by many different things. If your athlete has been having back pain for an extended period of time with no specific mechanism of injury, please try the following protocol.

Managing Chronic Back Pain:

  • Hot Epsom salt baths and massage
  • Natural solutions (contact me for this)
  • Refer to foam rolling document on sports medicine page
  • Stretch everything just foam rolled
  • Core exercises (contact me for this)
  • Dry Needling
    • This is the cherry on top to all the work above and should not be used as the only treatment. The technique uses a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle. Other terms commonly used to describe dry needling, include trigger point dry needling, and intramuscular manual therapy. Dry needling is not acupuncture, a practice based on traditional Chinese medicine and performed by acupuncturists. Dry needling is a part of modern Western medicine principles, and supported by research.
